Atoll supports several ways to view the same work.

Strategy

Strategy is the planning surface for goals, KPIs, initiatives, and linked execution. It includes five views:
  • Attention for the highest-risk strategy signals that need action now.
  • Plan for a narrative review of the current plan and gaps.
  • Update KPIs for managing metric freshness, target health, snapshot updates, and HTTP sync state.
  • Trace Chain for tracing Goal -> KPI -> Initiative -> Project -> Task.
  • Audit Table for dense scanning across multiple projects, companies, owners, dates, health states, and risk signals.
Use Strategy when you need to decide what work matters most, especially in an organization that contains several companies or major workstreams. When heartbeat can propose a concrete next step, Strategy shows a strategy-backed action card above the views. The card can prefill task creation, move an existing task forward with a durable progress note, open KPI snapshot recording, or submit blocker/progress comments with the strategy evidence preserved.

Board view

The board groups tasks by status. Use it for day-to-day flow and handoffs. Project board columns are customizable. Each column defines a valid task status for that project. Project boards also show a filter toolbar above the columns. Use scope tabs to show all tasks, your tasks, or blocked tasks; use the initiative and milestone selectors to focus strategy-linked work; and use search, priority, and assignee filters for narrower review. Focused board URLs remain shareable with the focus query parameter, and toolbar filters stay in the URL for refreshes and shared views. Use Manage milestones on the board to open milestone management without leaving the board.

List view

The list is better for scanning, filtering, sorting, and bulk review. Use list view when priority, dates, assignees, or status need comparison.

Timeline

Timeline and Gantt planning use startDate, dueDate, milestones, and dependencies. Use dates only when they are real planning constraints.

Custom views

Custom views save filters, sort order, display mode, color, and icon. They are useful for repeated workflows:
  • My open work
  • Blocked items
  • P0 and P1 tasks
  • Launch checklist
  • This team’s work

Milestones

Milestones mark a meaningful delivery point inside a project. Use milestones for phases, releases, launch dates, or contractual checkpoints. Milestones can link to one or more initiatives. A single initiative can also include several milestones. On the board, milestone focus stays scoped to that milestone’s tasks, while initiative focus rolls up all tasks connected to the selected initiative.

Project status updates

Project owners can post structured status updates with:
  • on_track
  • at_risk
  • off_track
Use status updates for stakeholder-facing progress, not every task-level change.

Analytics

Analytics summarize work across time and ownership:
  • Status distribution
  • Priority breakdown
  • Assignee workload
  • Created versus completed trends
Use analytics for reporting and operational review.
